Facebook Wants to 'Normalize' Data Scraping, Email Suggests

An email sent in error by a Facebooks communications team member to a Belgian journalist appears to indicate that the company hopes that data scraping problems will be seen as normal when they next occur. So reports CNET.

facebook 2429746 640 smallThe email from an unnamed Facebook staffer reads, “Longer term, though, we expect more scraping incidents and think its important to both frame this as a broad industry issue and normalize the fact that this activity happens regularly.”

Facebook, which didn’t respond to CNET’s request for comment, has come under investigation by the EU’s privacy watchdog after it emerged that 533 million Facebooker users’ personal data had been scraped and published on a hacker website.
