Cybersecurity Expert Daniel Kaminsky Dead at 42

Daniel Kaminsky, an information security expert who in 2008 uncovered a major vulnerability in the fundamental workings of the internet, has died at age 42. So reports The New York Times.

internet earth 2254769 640Kaminsky’s family said he died from a severe diabetes condition, for which he had often been in the hospital over the years.

Although most prominent for revealing a flaw in the internet’s Domain Name System, which led to a patch for the problem, Kaminsky also raised public awareness in 2005 of spyware that Sony BMG was installing on computers to fight music piracy, and he was a well-regarded practitioner of penetration testing.
