University of Minnesota Faces Class Action Over Data Breach

The University of Minnesota has been slapped with a potential class action lawsuit over a data breach purportedly compromising more than 7 million Social Security numbers. So reports Minnesota Public Radio.

gavel 2492011 1920The complaint in federal court claims that the university violated the Minnesota Government Data Practices Act by failing to “establish appropriate security safeguards” for personally identifiable information.

A U of M spokesperson told MPR that while the institution does not comment on litigation, “I want to reiterate that the safety and privacy of all members of the University community are among our top priorities.”
