Amazon’s Biometric Payment System Raises Privacy Questions

A new Amazon service that uses a palm-recognition scan for payment at brick-and-mortar stores has prompted concerns among some privacy advocates. So reports The Washington Post.

AmazonAmazon One, as the system is known, stands out from other companies’ biometric offerings because the data is uploaded to the cloud, which privacy advocates say means it’s vulnerable to being breached by hackers or shared with law enforcement.

“As with everything at Amazon, we take data security very seriously, and any sensitive data is treated in accordance with long-standing policies," said a spokesperson for Amazon, whose CEO and founder, Jeff Bezos, owns The Post. "We are confident that the cloud is highly secure.”
