Virgin Media Breach Exposes Customer Data Linked to Adult Content

A data breach confirmed by Virgin Media has exposed more than 1,000 records linking the UK telecom and TV provider’s customer details to porn, gambling, and extreme violence websites. So reports The Financial Times.

ecstatic 2821540 640smallVirgin has acknowledged the exposure of a marketing database that contained “limited contact information such as names, home and email addresses, and phone numbers” for roughly 900,000 subscribers.

The link to sensitive content potentially opens Virgin subscribers to extortion attempts. Virgin told the FT it would contact affected customers with personalized advice.
