Mercedes-Benz App Suffers Security Lapse

Mercedes-Benz owners have said that data from other people’s accounts was showing up in the remote app they use to locate, unlock, and start their vehicles. So reports TechCrunch.

“I got in contact with the person who owns the car that was showing up,” one Mercedes owner said. “I could see the car was in Los Angeles, where he had been, and he was in fact there.”

A spokesperson for Daimler, the parent company of Mercedes-Benz, said the issue had been resolved. “There was a short interval during which incorrect customer data was displayed on our MercedesMe app, the spokesperson told TechCrunch. “The information displayed was cached information—not real-time access to the account, no financial info was viewable nor was it possible to interact with, or determine live location of, the vehicle associated with the account.”
