U.S. Cyber Command Goes On Offense Against Russian Power Grid

The U.S. Cyber Command, an arm of the Pentagon that was granted new authorities last year, has shifted its strategy more toward offense, using cyber tools more aggressively in Russia’s electric power grid. So reports The New York Times.

Supporters of the stepped-up activity suggest it was a response to government warnings that Russian malware could hamper U.S. energy infrastructure. “But it also carries significant risk of escalating the daily digital Cold War between Washington and Moscow,” the Times notes.
