Ransomware Wave Hits Universities, Florida Supreme Court  

The Florida Supreme Court and at least a dozen U.S. and European universities, including the Georgia Institute of Technology in the United States and Houston’s Rice University, have been targeted in a ransomware outbreak. So reports Reuters.

ransomware 3998798 640 smallThe rapidly spreading wave of digital extortion affected more than 3,800 organizations’ servers, according to crowdsourced ransomware tracking platform Ransomwhere.

The extent of any disruption suffered by the victims is unclear, and hackers seemed to have extorted only $88,000. Cybersecurity experts believe the attacks relied on a two-year-old flaw in VMWare server software.
