Elon Musk Hosting SNL Spurs $10M in Crypto Scams: Report

Scammers took advantage of the announcement that Tesla boss Elon Musk would host a recent episode of Saturday Night Live, promoting cybersecurity schemes that potentially earned them as much as $10 million. That’s according to a blog post by cybersecurity firm Tenable.

elon musk 6222396 640Between May 7 and May 9, scammers compromised a range of verified Twitter accounts and YouTube channels, shifted them to impersonate official Saturday Night Live accounts and then hawked bogus cryptocurrency giveaways, according to Tenable.

Tenable staff research engineer Satnam Narang estimates that scammers stole more than $9.4 million in Dogecoin, $609,000 Bitcoin and $423,000 Ethereum, according to a press release.
