D.C. Police Confirm Server Breach in Seeming Ransomware Attack

The Washington, D.C. police department has acknowledged “unauthorized access” to its computer network, and a ransomware group has claimed to possess confidential details. So reports the Associated Press.

ransomware 3998798 640 smallThe District of Columbia’s Metropolitan Police Department, which did not confirm right away whether ransomware was involved, said it had called on the FBI to investigate.

Babuk, a Russian-speaking cyber-extortion gang, said on its website that if police did not pay out an unspecified ransom “we will start to contact gangs in order to drain the informants.”
