Ashley Madison Data Breach Fuels 'Sextortion' Scams 5 Years Later

Ashley Madison subscribers are becoming the targets of a new type of heist five years after the affair-dating website’s 2015 data breach. So reports CNBC.

email 3249062 640 smallResearchers at email security company Vade Security have found “sextortion” emails with usernames and other sensitive information that seem to have been exposed in the breach.

The researchers said that the realistic-seeming nature of the scammers’ emails, which cite slickly chosen bits of data that appear to be from actual Ashley Madison users, makes them potentially more threatening than standard-issue attempts to extort victims with claims about compromising sexual material.
