U.S. District Court Judge JP Stadtmueller said that 25-year-old Marcus Hutchins would serve one year of supervised release, but be allowed to go to the UK and not have to pay any fines after he pleaded guilty to two malware charges.
Hutchins, who faced a maximum of 10 years in prison, was credited with helping stop the WannaCry ransomware attack against the UK National Health Service in 2017.
