Cyber Pro Who Stopped 'WannaCry' Attack Admits to Malware

U.K. cybersecurity researcher Marcus Hutchins, who was praised as a hero for thwarting the worldwide “WannaCry” ransomware attack two years ago, has pleaded guilty to malware charges in federal court in Wisconsin. So reports Reuters.

Hutchins, also known as MalwareTech, pleaded guilty two counts and the U.S. government agreed it would drop the other eight counts during sentencing. Hutchins drew notoriety in May 2017 for helping stop the widespread “WannaCry” attack but was arrested later that year in Las Vegas.
