FTC to Health Apps: Come Clean About Breaches, Or Else  

The Federal Trade Commission has announced a new policy statement warning makers of health apps and connected devices that they face fines if they fail to notify consumers in the event of a data breach. So reports Fierce Healthcare.

red cross 303433 640smallBy a 3-2 vote, the FTC approved the policy statement, which affirms that health apps and connected devices collect the type of data that is covered by 2009’s Health Breach Notification Rule.

The FTC observed that health apps increasingly track sensitive data relating to glucose levels, heart health, fertility and sleep.
