Afghan Government Databases Could Boost Taliban: Report  

Databases established by the former Afghan government to curb fraud hold sensitive personal information on millions of people, which the Taliban could now use to its advantage. So reports MIT Technology Review.

Taliban search bar 6564555 640U.S. military biometric devices reportedly captured by the Taliban offer only limited access to iris scans, fingerprints and similar data, which is mainly stored remotely, experts told the publication.

But the U.S.-funded Afghan Personnel and Pay System, or APPS, contains 40 pieces of data per person, down to their favorite fruit, and at least one source familiar with the database warned that the Taliban could use the information for targeted retribution, despite the group’s public statement that it would not engage in such attacks.
