Private Spy Software Used to Track Activists, Journalists: Leak

An investigation by 17 media outlets into leaked data has revealed that authoritarian governments using Israeli firm NSO Group’s Pegasus spyware have targeted human rights activists, journalists and attorneys around the globe. So reports The Guardian.

amnesty internationalNSO, which denied “false claims,” has long maintained that the spyware, which can hack iPhones and Android devices, is just meant to be used against wrongdoers.

The leak, shared with news organizations by Amnesty International and Paris-based nonprofit Forbidden Stories, includes a list of 50,000-plus phone numbers thought to belong to NSO customers’ people of interest over the past five years.
