The job gives Zatko, who most recently oversaw security at electronic payments startup Stripe, a wide remit to overhaul security practices. He will report directly to CEO Jack Dorsey.
The hire comes after Twitter said in September that it had brought on Rinki Sethi as chief information security officer.
