Premera Blue Cross Owes $6.9M in Second-biggest HIPAA Payout

Premera Blue Cross has agreed to pay $6.9 million over a 2014-2015 data breach that compromised the personal details of more than 10 million people. So reports FierceHealthcare.

PremeraThe health insurer’s settlement with the Office for Civil Rights at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services represents the second-biggest Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act settlement, according to the agency. The highest HIPAA payout was Anthem’s $16 million settlement two years ago.
