Suspect Arrested in 2014 Healthcare Employee Data Breach

A 2014 breach of University of Pittsburgh Medical Center’s human resources data breach has finally led to an arrest. So reports Fierce Healthcare.

handcuffs 354042 640smallJustin Sean Johnson, identified on the dark web as “TDS” or “DS,” faces federal charges of conspiracy, wire fraud and aggravated identity theft involving the UPMC hack.

According to the 43-page indictment, Johnson hacked and sold the personal information of 65,000 UPMC employees, leading to thousands of bogus IRS tax returns and about $1.7 million in phony tax return refunds.
