The 16th-largest U.S. bank by deposits said it had fired the suspects but did not detail how many employees were believed to be involved.
“The information was stolen by a small number of employees who provided it to people outside of the bank,” said Laura Trujillo, a Fifth Third spokesperson. “According to the authorities, and based on our own internal investigation, we have terminated the employees involved in any wrongdoing.”
