The foreign ministry said the gravity of the incident implied that a “state actor” may have been responsible. “Despite all intensive security measures, there is never 100% protection against cyber-attacks,” Austria’s foreign ministry told the BBC.
The incident follows a cyber attack on the German government’s computer systems in 2018, suspected to be the work of Russian hackers.
