Louisiana State Government Crippled in Ransomware Attack

Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards has declared a state of emergency after a ransomware attack on state government servers. So reports Business Insider.

While the state did not lose data or pay a ransom, the incident briefly led to the outage of “many state websites and emails,” according to a press release, “due to the state taking extreme emergency protective measures, including shutting down server traffic, to neutralize the attack.”

The emergency declaration allows state agencies to take steps, such as waiving fees and fines in order to help the public.
