Hackers Plead Guilty in Cyberattack That Uber Concealed

Two men have pleaded guilty in federal court in San Jose, Calif., to computer hacking and an extortion conspiracy that entangled Uber as well as LinkedIn-owned Lynda.com. So reports the Associated Press.

Brandon Charles Glover, 26, and Vasile Mereacre, 23, admitted to taking the companies’ personal user data that was stored on Amazon Web Services from October 2016 to January 2017 and then seeking ransom. Uber acknowledged in November 2017 that it paid $100,000 for the men to destroy the data it had on about 57 million of the ride-sharing company’s customers.
