Dems Call for Amazon Probe Over Capital One Hack

Two U.S. lawmakers have urged the Federal Trade Commission to look into this summer’s Capital One data breach, which involved the records of more than 100 million people. So reports GeekWire.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), one of the leading candidates for her party’s presidential nomination, and Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.), wrote a letter to the FTC (PDF) saying that it should determine whether Amazon’s “failure to secure its services” broke federal law against unfair business practices. According to the letter, Amazon was aware of the security lapse that facilitated the breach, which led to the July arrest of a Seattle software engineer.
