Security firm VPNMentor tipped off officials to the security failure, which included the information of kids and adults, living and dead, including WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange. Ecuador’s attorney general did not clarify in a statement whether the data had actually been stolen while exposed.

In a separate statement, Ecuadoran officials said they had arrested a man associated with Novaestrat, an online data consultancy.
