Premera Blue Cross Inks $72M Settlement in 2014 Breach

Health insurer Premera Blue Cross has reached a $72 million proposed settlement of a class-action lawsuit stemming from a 2014 data breach involving more than 10 million patients. So reports SC Magazine.

If approved by a federal judge and not appealed, the deal would require Premera to pay $42 million to bolster its cybersecurity practices and $32 million toward monetary relief for the patients, including credit monitoring and attorneys’ fees. In a court motion, Primera said its cybersecurity improvements included employing a chief information security officer, operating a cyber security operations center and requiring information security training for employees.
