European Parliament Warns on China Telecoms Risks

The European Parliament has joined the chorus of Western governments ringing the alarm about alleged cybersecurity threats posed by Chinese companies such as Huawei participating in the rollout of 5G wireless technology. So reports Bloomberg.

In a resolution, the European Union’s assembly “expresse[d] deep concern about the recent allegations that 5G equipment developed by Chinese companies may have embedded backdoors that would allow manufacturers and authorities to have unauthorized access to private and personal data and telecommunications from the EU.” Separately, the EU’s executive body, the European Commission, said it planned to make a recommendation on a bloc-wide 5G security regime.
