The regulator said in a press release that it has heard of efforts to access consumers’ sensitive information from sites that provide auto insurance rate quotes and then use that to apply for fraudulent pandemic and unemployment benefits.
A cyber fraud alert from the agency to the insurance industry reads, “DFS urges all regulated entities with Instant Quote Websites to immediately review those websites for evidence of hacking.”
